Scott Turner's Song Publisher's Perspective

The Clash of the Titans

Scott Turner From time to time, I receive a CD in the mail where there was no thought put into the sequence of the cuts, which often times leads to an ear bender when the keys clash, coming out of one song into another. I recall one night in L.A. when I was driving home from a local club where one of my acts was performing, a local disc jockey decided to take a coffee break so he let an album play all the way through side one and there were some terrible clashes of keys that didn't mesh while going from song to song. So be sure to check out your final sequence before you have your CD manufactured.

The news just announced the passing of Bob Hope. He happened to live about one black away from Audie Murphy in North Hollywood. There was one occasion when my "present" boss Guy Mitchell (who had 19 million sellers) and I were at Audie's and when we left to go back to Guy's ranch, Guy decided to stop by his friend Bob Hope's "gated" home. The gate was locked so Guy decided to yell out, "Can Bobby come out and play?" and Bob's wife opened the door, recognized Guy and had Bob come down and open the gate. I readily noted that they were great pals as they had done many shows together. I'll never forget that day because Bob was overly kind to me, and, in fact, he asked Guy to sing a few songs. Guy picked up the guitar and sang "Thanks for the Memories" which moved Bob greatly. I noticed that Bob's backyard was a 9-hole golf course that was adjacent to Universal Studios' back lot. That was back in 1961.

The whole world will be mourning Bob's passing as he touched a lot of people's lives. RIP.
