Connor Rand and the Red Dirt Band - Self-titled
Atlanta's Americana/country singer-songwriter and his cohorts take you on a wonderful trip through smoke-filled honky tonks and Bourbon Street dives. Delectably retro but with a touch of modern edginess, you can feel influences running the gamut of early Willie Nelson, John Prine, Professor Longhair and a waft of the Stones. Barrelhouse piano, folksy guitar work with a slight twang and rhythms that will have you two steppin' in your living room are the perfect compliment to Connor's bluesy croon and sparkling tongue-in-cheek humor. Ian Anderson - Ian Anderson Plays the Orchestral Jethro Tull
ZYX Music - ZYX20723-2
It would seem pre-ordained that the music of Jethro Tull would fit wonderfully with an orchestra and this double disc proves it. Backed by the Neue Philharmonic of Frankfort, the history of one of rock's most engaging madmen Ian Anderson is told in spectacular fashion. While the treatments avoid being bombastic or overly orchestrated, versions of Tull classics like Living In The Past, Locomotive Breath, and the inevitable but delicious Bouree are nothing short of phenomenal. LSA - Bits and Pieces
III Elements Records
San Francisco's songwriter and producer Aliza Grant creates a stunning debut that injects incredible life into the drum and bass/trip-hop genre. Her talents in sampling and production are matched by her prowess on guitar and keyboards, lending a nice touch of uniqueness. Honest emotions grasp you in songs like Jesus Loves Me and Underwater Blues, while Raindance and On The Rag enthrall you with their frenetic energy. Very cool and well done music. Winterfall - The Veil Of Summer
The debut CD from Lancaster, PA's Winterfall melds elements from both interpretations of modern prog, creating a powerful introduction. The complexity of their songwriting and melodic touches is reminiscent of Dream Theater and Leviathan interspersed with ferocious thrash attacks. Tunes like The Beggar King and The Iris will get your head banging furiously, while Thredony is an opedic example of the band's talents. Intense and attention grabbing. TNT - All The Way To The Sun
MayHem Records - MAY 11182-2
After a two decade existence, Scandinavian rockers TNT are still melting speakers with their gutsy but melodic hard rock. Laden with fat riffs, blistering solos, soaring vocals and thundering rhythms, this trio reminds us of why this genre was so popular. Bearing a resemblance to a cross between Dokken and the Scorpions, the music may be nostalgic but is no less intense. Their power ballad take on Satchmo's What A Wonderful World is a great novelty song. URL: http://www.tnttheband.com
Tribe of Judah Anointed Reggae Band & Show - Bloom Where You're Planted
Tribe of Judah Enterprises - 00001-70000-D
One of reggae legend Bob Marley's most beloved songs is Positive Vibrations. This band from San Diego honors his memory not only with their excellent music which is rooted much more in the Caribbean than SoCal, but in the positive vibrations their music exudes. Obviously conscious about world issues and spirituality, their music is both enjoyable and thought-provoking. The passionate Wisdom and funky Reggae Delight are a couple of the many standouts. 6s - Secrets of 6S
Boston pop rockers 6s may be headed for the dollar signs if this CD is any indication. They have a solid grasp on the retro-influenced rock that has fueled the success of bands like Click Five and Jet, but they have a distinctive songwriting personality that serves notice they are not holding onto anyone's coattails. Wealthy Man snarls with gritty guitar power while Throw Me A Line has Beatles' touches. Their astonishing vocal harmonies are the crowning touch. Laura Bradley - Storm
Street Beat - STR-CD-1176
Miami's singer/songwriter Laura Bradley takes the soulful guts of Bonnie Raitt and fuels it with a modern pop perspective and songwriting versatility. Reason launches the disc with a power rocker as potent as anything out there. The title track is seductively ethereal while Rockbottom swells with burgeoning emotion. Laura has the full package, creating songs that are comfortable but very well-crafted and a voice that will captivate you. URL: http://www.laurabradley.com E-mail: jerry@lemboentertainment.com
The Independents - self titled
Braun and Brains Music - BBM-43
This independent band compilation is a feast of music that deserves to be heard. Truck Of The Rising Sun by Dudley Sanders has a Doors feel with deep South roots touches. 9 Red Sun kicks in some wicked female voiced power pop with Growing Up in Public. Skin Flick's Dear Adeline evokes Green Day with gritty vocals. Christa Couture's frantic folk in I Will and the hammering grunge of Krescent 4's Picture Perfect are a couple more ear openers on this excellent collection. Todd Fritsch - self titled
Route 66 Productions - R66P0002
It's always refreshing to hear a performer thumb his nose at commercial country and Houston's Todd Fritsch does so in stoic fashion. An actual cowboy by profession, Todd brings pure emotion to the table along with a hefty saddlebag of songwriting talent. I Don't Live There Anymore is a classic country-inspired tear jerker. Bob Wills Song is a rollicking tribute to the legendary honky tonker. Memory Do Your Thing is a bit poppy but is also wonderful fun. URL: http://www.toddfritsch.com E-mail: martha@somuchmoore.com :->
